Your employer takes four statutory deductions from your gross pay each month: NSSF, SHIF, the Affordable Housing Levy and PAYE (income tax).
These three come off your gross pay before PAYE, so they reduce your taxable pay.
| Monthly taxable pay (KES) | Rate |
|---|---|
| First 24,000 | 10% |
| Next 8,333 (24,001 to 32,333) | 25% |
| Next 467,667 (32,334 to 500,000) | 30% |
| Next 300,000 (500,001 to 800,000) | 32.5% |
| Above 800,000 | 35% |
Every resident employee gets personal relief of KES 2,400 a month. It comes off the tax. If the tax is less than KES 2,400, PAYE is zero.
Net pay is gross pay less NSSF, SHIF, the Housing Levy and PAYE. Other deductions, such as loans or SACCO savings, then come off your net pay.
